Short+Sweet by the Sea

The City of Newcastle is set to stage a unique outdoor theatre experience at Nobbys Lighthouse on Saturday 25 February 2012.

Short+Sweet by the Sea will feature five 10-minute plays showcasing locally grown talent in an iconic Newcastle setting - and it’s FREE!

Each of the productions being performed is the result of many months of hard work by local writers, directors, producers and actors who participated in the latest Newcastle and Sydney Short+Sweet Festivals.

To make the evening even more enjoyable, don’t forget to pack to a picnic tea, some cushions, rugs or low folding chairs. Refreshments will also be available from the kiosk.

Places are limited so you need to register your interest by contacting Civic Ticketek either by phone on 4929 1977 or in person at 375 Hunter Street Newcastle. There is a limit of six tickets per person.

Entry to Short+Sweet by the Sea is only available by presentation of the free printed ticket.

There is no vehicle access to Nobbys Lighthouse. Parking is available at Nobbys Beach car park and the walk to the lighthouse takes around 15 minutes. Gates will open at 4pm and close at 7pm with performances taking place between 5pm and 6pm.

Background
Short+Sweet is an internationally renowned short play festival that takes place in several Australian capital cities and some regional centres, including Newcastle. It is also held throughout Asia and New Zealand.

As part of the Newcastle Festival, writers are invited to submit a script for a 10-minute play. The top 10 scripts are then produced, giving local theatre practitioners the opportunity to further their experience.

The 10-minute bite-sized dramatic treats are performed in front of a live audience at the Civic Playhouse with winning entries gaining a place at Sydney’s Short+Sweet Festival.
