About Us
Newcastle L!vesites is a cultural events program taking place in public spaces in the heart of Newcastle.
Our events are staged at sites including Hunter Street Mall, Civic Park, Wheeler Place, Pacific Park, Honeysuckle Promenade, Harbour Square and Brake Block Park.
Each year, L!vesites produces over 100 days of events and provides many days of arts employment.
Outdoor performance, installations, concerts, open air cinema and mass public dance classes - the program is diverse and varies from month to month with events happening constantly all around the city - sometimes in several venues at once!
Events are mostly free of charge and include a variety of cultural activities and entertainment to attract a broad range of people.
L!vesites' vision is to enliven the city – making it a vibrant, exciting and safe place in which to live, work and play!
The L!vesites place activation program was conceived in October 2003 as part of the Newcastle City Council’s Cultural Master Plan workshops. Key stakeholders from the city decided that cultural activities should be introduced into the city, bringing the city alive to complement new buildings and cultural infrastructure being completed - as part of a wider strategy of urban renewal. It is governed by a Board and a Programming Sub-committee, both of which meet every two months.
L!vesites is an initiative of the Newcastle City Council, Hunter Development Corporation, ARTS NSW.

WHEELER PLACE: A large paved square positioned next to the Civic Theatre on Hunter Street. Would be placed just south of no. 7 (Honeysuckle Workshops) on the below map.
